sound on Raspb. Pi 3

freebsd-arm mailing list
Dear list.
I'd like to play sound from my Raspberyr Pi 3b but run into
problems. I suspect a driver issue as no sound device shows up in
dmesg.

My /boot/efi/config.txt contains
  "dtparam=audio=on"
and I'm running
  FreeBSD 12.0-CURRENT #0 r320146M: Tue Jun 20 09:59:03 MDT 2017
  [hidden email]:
  /usr/home/brd/rpi3/crochet/work/obj/arm64.aarch64/usr/src/sys/GENERIC
  arm64

My question: Is anyone able to play sound from this device  via
hdmi or 3.5mm using FreeBSD-12-CURRENT without soldering additional
sound card like electronics to it?

Re: sound on Raspb. Pi 3

Hello,

The sound driver on all RPIs requires the VCHIQ driver so as to communicate with the firmware.
It has not yet been ported to arm64, so you won’t get any output through HDMI or the 3.5mm jack yet.

Your best bet is to use an USB sound card, or to try an armv6 snapshot (the RPI2 -CURRENT one for instance).
